23rd ITF Taekwon-Do World Championships in Jesolo Italy, 3–13 October 2025
The 23rd ITF Taekwon-Do World Championships took place in Jesolo Italy from 3 to 13 October 2025, closing an unforgettable week of high-level competition, international friendship, and the enduring spirit of Taekwon-Do.
The Championships were held under the patronage of the Municipality of Jesolo and Sport e Salute and were officially recognised by OPES, Italia the sports promotion body affiliated with the Italian National Olympic Committee CONI.
Venue and organization
The competition was staged at the Palazzo del Turismo in Jesolo.
Events ran on a tightly managed schedule and were attended by thousands of spectators who greeted each contest with enthusiastic applause.
All events complied with medical regulations and anti‑doping controls overseen by NADA officials to ensure a fair and safe Championship.
Divisions and disciplines
The Championships featured divisions across age groups and levels, including:
- Juniors: 14–15 years old
- Youth U‑18: 16–17 years old
- Adults:18 and 34 years old
- Veterans
- Silver Class: 35–44 years old
- Gold Class: 45 years and older
Competition disciplines included:
- Patterns (Tul)
- Sparring (Matsogi)
- Power Breaking (Wi Ryok)
- Special Technique (Tuk Gi)
- Self‑Defense Routine (Ho Sin Kyong Gi)
In a world first, the event also hosted an Open Championship, welcoming competitors of all belts and ages showcasing the spirit and inclusivity of Taekwon-Do to celebrate and broaden participation within the Taekwon-Do.
An Inclusive Taekwon‑Do Championship ran alongside the main programme and attracted wide interest from practitioners and supporters.
Education and officiating
A comprehensive two‑day ITF International Technical Seminar was delivered by Grand Master Hwang Ho Yong.
The seminar included an Umpire Refreshment Course attended by all umpires officiating at the World Championships, reinforcing consistent technical and safety standards across the event.
ITF Congress and Commemorative Events
The 29th ITF Congress convened on 6 October at the Congress Center in the Palazzo del Turismo with 203 representatives from 73 national associations in attendance.
On the same day the ITF President’s Reception commemorated the 70th Anniversary of the naming of Taekwon‑Do.
The ITF presented the Order of the 70th Anniversary of Taekwon‑Do to 72 Grand Masters, Masters and officials in recognition of their lifelong dedication to the art and the global Taekwon‑Do community.
Opening Ceremony and special recognitions
The Championships opened with a grand ceremony where the ITF President congratulated participants and thanked the Organizing Committee.
The Organizing Committee presented Recognition Plaques to Prof.Grand Master Ri Yong Son, Grand Master Michael Prewett, Grand Master Tan Chek Si, Grand Master Linda Low and Master Ruggiero Lanotte in acknowledgement of their outstanding service to Taekwon‑Do.
Participation and impact
This Championship brought together more than 2 000 participants from over 70 countries including:
- 1 180 competitors
- 99 umpires
- 310+ coaches
- 928 officials and support staff
The scale and diversity of participation showcased the unity and excellence of the ITF family and reinforced Jesolo’s standing as a memorable host for international martial arts events.
