International Technical Seminar & International Instructors Course hosted by the British Isles
Taekwon‑Do Federation (BITF) was held on the 17th to 19th May in Helensburgh, Scotland,
UK. Conducted by Grandmaster L Hutchison (BITF President, ITF EB Member, ITF
Chairman Junior and Veterans Committee and IMG Great Britain
President).

This excellent event was organised and hosted by Mr Steven Mclaren (BITF) joined by
Masters from England and Wales.

A three-day event starting on the Friday afternoon in the classroom detailing the educational
side of Taekwon‑Do and the values of being an instructor, discussing in detail:

Duty and role of Instructor/ Ideal Instructor/ Classification of the Instructor/ Title and function
of Instructor/ Definition of Taekwon‑Do/ Charter of Taekwon‑Do/ Philosophy of Taekwon‑Do/
Tenets of Taekwon‑Do/ Moral Culture/ Student and Instructor relationship/ History of Taekwon-
Do/ About General Choi Hong Hi Founder/ Taekwon‑Do students’ oath/ Composition of
Taekwon‑Do/ Theory of power/ Vital spots/ Basic factors of Taekwon‑Do.

A thorough and informative afternoon.

Saturday started with GM Hutchison taking the candidates through a thorough warm up, he then put into practice the Composition of Taekwon‑Do signifying the importance
of each individual component.
He taught fundamental movements, attack and defence, that are vital for the patterns
with no opponent. Then moving onto kicking from static to flying, jumping and dodging techniques and the purpose of setting up attacks.
He then continued to teach Patterns from CHON-JI to GE-BAEK to complete Saturdays
Seminar.

Sunday started with GM Hutchison breaking down Blackbelt patterns with demonstrations, moving onto his Masters demonstrating the following: Master Leigh Pember foot sparring (Bal Matsogi) and Master Wayne Higginson model sparring (Mobum Matsogi) and candidates practising this in groups.
GM Hutchison then taught the remaining patterns from EUI-AM through to TONG-IL.
The Seminar finished on a high with many photographs for all BITF participants and its
members.

Following the Seminar was a thorough IIC examination and Black Belt Grading, successfully
promoting 16 candidates.

Grandmaster Hutchison delivered the course with technical detail, knowledge, and
enthusiasm to make the event inspiring and educational for all.
